Enchanted Homeschooling Mom: Story of the World: Chapter 12

?

In this chapter of Story of the World we focused our studies on The Middle Kingdom of Egypt. I would also like to point out that I am enjoying these past few chapters just as much as the kids are! I have always loved studying Egypt and cross my fingers and my toes that one day I can just hop on the Tardis and go back in time to see it live in action (all of you Dr. Who fans will understand that reference). I constantly call the Doctor to help with our SOTW lessons but he has yet to come, LOL. Here are the books our family used throughout this chapter:

We also read these books throughout Chapter 12:

Am I the only homeschooling parent that has to go online before or after reading a chapter in SOTW to learn how to properly pronounce a certain historical location, name or so on? They can be so tricky and I am so afraid that I will teach my children the wrong pronunciation and that people will look at them oddly when they are grown up?s and try to figure out who in the world their teacher was, LOL.? If you are at all like me I highly suggest hopping over and using the online tool found HERE (it has been a lifesaver for me).?

After completing our map and lapbook work the kids moved on to several final projects. Elizabeth made a golden bracelet and pretended that her Nubian friends had left it for her on her pillow. However, she would like me to relay to everyone that wearing a bracelet wrapped around your upper arm is not only uncomfortable, but being the fashion diva that she is, she also predicts that it will not be in style anytime soon, LOL.

Beck was immediately drawn to a final project where he made an Egyptian Chariot and Horse like the Egyptian princes used in their battle against the Hyksos. After looking at the original materials list I was in all honestly a little hesitant to move forward on this project due to the overall cost of the materials (I try to take the costs on these projects in mind and where I can, I try to keep them at little to no extra money out of our homeschooling budget). Beck and I put our heads together and decided to make this model out of Legos. I asked Beck to pull the pieces together for later in the week that he thought he might use and over an hour later he came back with the model already completed in hand! I guess he didn?t want to wait, LOL.

Our family is excited to move on to Chapter 13 after a short break for time off of school around Halloween! Make sure to follow my Story of the World Pinterest Board since I am always trying to add more ideas to it.

Make it a magical homeschooling day, ?
